India v Pakistan 1999-2000

At Brisbane, January 10 (day/night)

15-Apr-2001
At Brisbane, January 10 (day/night). Pakistan won by two wickets. Toss: India. International debut: S. S. Dighe.
For the second night in a row, Saqlain Mushtaq and Waqar Younis starred as batsmen, this time with an entertaining if chancy stand of 43 from 37 balls that ran India ragged. Even so, it took a scampered bye off the last delivery to bring victory. Pakistan, docked one over for their slow over-rate, had been 71 for six before Yousuf Youhana's exhilarating 63 made light of conditions offering bowlers generous movement. Batting first, India had managed only eight from their first six overs and, when Abdur Razzaq ripped out Tendulkar's middle stump, the portents were ominous. Only solid fifties from Ganguly and Robin Singh saved them. Shoaib Akhtar continued to make headlines, both for initiating another collapse and, dramatically, for pulling a young fan from the path of a speeding taxi after the game. The boy had run across the road to where Shoaib was signing autographs. "He saved the kid's life," said a police sergeant.
Man of the Match: Yousuf Youhana. Attendance: 15,583.
