India won with surprising ease after South Africa had reached 112 for three from 30 overs. The later batsmen failed to rise to the requirement of 5.5 from the remaining 20, only Richardson reaching double figures. Jadeja and Kambli set up India's total of 221 with a stand of 88 in 18 overs; Kambli went on to score 86. This was the inaugural match at the Punjab CA's ground at Mohali, a few miles from Chandigarh.
