India v Sri Lanka

At Bristol, July 11 (day/night)

15-Apr-2003
At Bristol, July 11 (day/night). India won by 63 runs. India 5 pts. Toss: India.
The highlight of a meaningless match was a sublime innings from Tendulkar, who resumed his fleeting love affair with Nevil Road to the delight of a flag-waving crowd. On India's only other visit to Bristol, for a World Cup game in 1999 against Kenya, Tendulkar had creamed an unbeaten 140, and this time he drove with elan to make 113 off just 102 balls with 12 fours and a six. It was his 33rd one-day international century and his seventh against Sri Lanka. Tendulkar drove his first and fifth balls to the cover boundary and never looked back, reaching his half-century in 46 deliveries and his hundred in just 93. He shared stands of 99 in 16 overs with Mongia and 74 in 11 with Kaif to help India past 300, as he had done three years earlier. Sri Lanka raced to 50 in the sixth over and were well-placed at 160 for two in the 26th, but Harbhajan came back to snuff out the lower-middle order as the last eight wickets fell for just 81 with almost six overs still to go.
Man of the Match: S. R. Tendulkar. Attendance: 10,000; receipts £170,000.
