†INDIA v WEST INDIES 1987-88

At Trivandrum, January 25

15-Apr-1989
At Trivandrum, January 25. West Indies won by nine wickets. Toss: West Indies. Despite a flamboyant 101 off 105 balls by Srikkanth, who was dropped in the slips in the first over of the match, India could not extend West Indies. Even on a good batting pitch, their batting failed to achieve consistency. Srikkanth, who struck ten fours and three sixes, was supported only by Amarnath (84 balls) and Azharuddin. Requiring 240 to win, West Indies were taken to within 76 runs of their target by an opening partnership between Greenidge, who seemed none the worse for a three-week break from the game, and Simmons, who put on 164 in 28 overs. Greenidge's 84 was made off 75 balls, with four fours and five sixes, while Simmons, although more sedate (129 balls), hit four fours and four sixes in his first hundred at this level.
Man of the Match: P. V. Simmons. Man of the Series: I. V. A. Richards.
