†INDIA v WEST INDIES 1988-89

At Sharjah, October 16

15-Apr-1990
At Sharjah, October 16. India won by 23 runs. Toss: West Indies. West Indies experienced their first defeat in three visits to Sharjah, beaten by the magic of Srikkanth's batting and the mystery of Hirwani's leg-spin. Although India were held to just 14 runs off the first ten overs, once Srikkanth went on the attack, West Indies' bowlers could not contain him. Harper, three times over long-on, Benjamin and Ambrose were all struck for six by Srikkanth, who also hit ten fours in scoring 112 from 113 balls. Greenidge and Haynes began confidently in reply, but the middle-order batsmen looked anything but sure against Hirwani. Kapil Dev became the leading wicket-taker in one-day internationals when he bowled Haynes, his 147th victim.
Man of the Match: K. Srikkanth.
