India v Zimbabwe 1999-2000

Toss: Zimbabwe.

15-Apr-2001
Toss: Zimbabwe.
Ganguly's eighth hundred in 120 limited-overs internationals took the game far beyond Zimbabwe's reach and saw India, unbeaten in the preliminary games, to the final. Cloud cover encouraged Campbell to field, but the pitch proved perfect for batting. Ganguly started at a restrained pace, putting on 70 for the first wicket in 16 overs with Ramesh, then accelerated. Though he was dropped by Mbangwa when 67, it was otherwise one-way traffic. In a coruscating innings, he hit 11 fours and five sixes, finishing on 139 from 147 balls in the 47th over. As others joined in the attack, India pillaged 94 off the last ten overs. For Zimbabwe, victory was not enough: to reach the final on net run-rate they needed 278 in 42.1 overs, an asking-rate of 6.59. They had made 52 without loss after ten overs but, once the openers went, no one else stayed for long.
Man of the Match: S. C. Ganguly.
