India v Zimbabwe, 2013

Wisden's review of the first ODI, India v Zimbabwe, 2013

15-Apr-2014
At Harare, July 24, 2013. First one-day international: India won by six wickets. Zimbabwe 228-7 (50 overs) (V. Sibanda 34, Sikandar Raza 82, E. Chigumbura 43*; A. Mishra 3-43); ‡India 230-4 (44.5 overs) (V. Kohli 115, A. T. Rayudu 63*). MoM: V. Kohli. ODI debuts: A. T. Rayudu, J. D. Unadkat (India). India won the toss for a 9am start, and their seamers zipped the ball around in the first hour. Zimbabwe's openers battled gamely, but their stand ended at 72 when Amit Mishra set the tone for the series by foxing Vusi Sibanda with a googly. Sikandar Raza, dropped at slip by Virat Kohli on 28, pressed on to a maiden international fifty, and eventually fell in the desperate crash for runs. India cruised past the target in benign afternoon conditions: Kohli hit his 15th ODI hundred in his 106th innings, comfortably the quickest, beating Saeed Anwar's 143. He was assisted by the calm debutant Ambati Rayudu in a 159-run stand. The umpires began the match wearing crimson shirts, but switched to sky blue for India's innings to stand out from the Zimbabwe fielders.
