At Durban, April 23, 2009. Delhi Daredevils won by nine runs. Toss: Delhi Daredevils. Delhi Daredevils 189-5 (20 overs) (A. B. de Villiers 105*, T. M. Dilshan 50; L. Balaji 3-19); Chennai Super Kings 180-9 (20 overs) (M. L. Hayden 57, S. K. Raina 41; P. Sangwan 3-28). Delhi Daredevils 2 pts. Man of the Match: A. B. de Villiers.
At 8-2, with Gambhir and Sehwag both out, Delhi looked in trouble, but de Villiers took centre stage, racing to the tournament's first century, in just 51 balls, with five fours and six sixes. Flintoff's four overs cost 50. Hayden and Raina had kept Chennai in the frame by the time of the mid-innings strategic time-out (a new innovation this season), but immediately afterwards Delhi regained the initiative, as Raina and Dhoni fell quickly.
