India's allrounder Ravindra Jedeja claimed four wickets to help his side to a convincing eight-wicket win over Afghanistan in their Asia Cup encounter on Wednesday.
Virat Kohli won the toss and put the opposition in to bat. Mohammad Shami struck in the sixth over of the match and dismissed opener Nawroz Mangal for just five runs.
The Afghan batsmen added another 24 runs, before Kohli introduced Jadeja into the attack. The change worked immediately and he picked up two wickets in the first over itself.
Jadeja then added two more wickets and ran through Afghanistan's middle order that was clueless against India's spin. Jadeja, Amit Mishra and R Ashwin - bowled unchanged from the 12th over until the 36th with combined figures of 25-3-73-7 during that period.
Ashwin picked up three wickets and Mishra one, to restrict the opposition to a paltry 159 runs in 45.2 overs.
India's openers Ajinkya Rahane and Shikhar Dhawan gave their side a solid start with a 121-run opening stand. The platform helped India reach the target in just 32.2 overs.
"The wicket was slow, I was trying to bowl slow, so that I could get some turn," Jadeja said. "You know that wicket is always going to be slow in Bangladesh. Before the game started, Duncan [Fletcher] told us this also counts an ODI, so you guys be serious, we were focused on the game."
