Kenya v Bangladesh

At Nairobi Gymkhana, Nairobi, October 10

15-Apr-1999
At Nairobi Gymkhana, Nairobi, October 10. Kenya won by 150 runs. Toss: Bangladesh. International debuts: Mohammad Sheikh, A. Vadher; Shahriar Hossain.
With both teams having received official one-day international status only in June, national records were inevitable. But no one expected the highest opening partnership in 1,239 one-day internationals: the stand of 225 between Dipak Chudasama and Kennedy Otieno surpassed the 212 between Australians Geoff Marsh and David Boon at Jaipur in 1986-87. Kenya's 347 was the highest total by a non-Test side and Chudasama, a dentist by profession, became the first Kenyan to make a one-day international century, though Otieno soon overtook him, and finished with 144. At 100 for two, Bangladesh looked to have made a reasonable start, but the Kenyan captain, Asif Karim, took wickets throughout the innings to finish with five for 33. Only Ather Ali Khan, with 61, offered any resistance. For the Kenyans, who had lost the ICC Trophy final to Bangladesh in Malaysia the previous April, revenge was sweet.
Man of the Match: K. Otieno.
