Lucy Doolan, the New Zealand allrounder, has signed as the overseas player for Essex for the rest of the women's county season.
Doolan, 21, has been playing club cricket in England after the completion of the World Twenty20 last month, where New Zealand reached the finals.
"I am confident that the women's county scene will be the richer for Lucy being involved," Wellington coach Mark Borthwick said, "and I am hopeful that other women who play the game in New Zealand will see this as an opportunity to engage in off-season playing experiences just like their male counterparts do."
Doolan has played 16 ODIs, scoring 227 runs at 28.37 and has also bagged 17 wickets, and is expected to make her Essex debut against Middlesex on August 2.
