Maynard and Powell dominate Hampshire bowlers

"Those April showers, they come your way", only in Cardiff they last for 8 hours or more, and it was such a shower

"Those April showers, they come your way", only in Cardiff they last for 8 hours or more, and it was such a shower! That prevented any play before 4:30pm, lopping off 72 prospective overs in the days play.
The 32 overs (2 hours play) belonged to the home side Glamorgan, when the third day of the Frizzell County Championship match finally got underway. Hampshire's only chance of forging a victory out of the truncated match was in gaining early wickets to force the home side into a follow on situation.
Alan Mullally made the breakthrough after half an hour when he forced David Hemp into playing on, but that was to be Hampshire's only success as Michael Powell and Matthew Maynard shared a century partnership, and brought their side within reach of avoiding being asked to follow their innings.
On the easy paced pitch, all the Hampshire bowlers toiled, with Maynard taking 26 from one over from Chris Tremlett, the pair played superbly, and into a safer position.
With more rain forecast on Saturday, it is difficult now to see a positive result from Hampshire's second Championship match of 2003.
