McDonald rewarded for superb season

Andrew McDonald was recognised for what could be a breakthrough season for him, winning the Bill Lawry Medal as Victoria's best Pura Cup player for the year. Cameron White's limited-overs form earned him the Dean Jones Medal as the Bushrangers' top one-day player for 2006-07.

McDonald, who before this season had managed only one half-century from 17 first-class games, finished the year trailing only David Hussey and Brad Hodge on the state's run tally. He made his maiden first-class century against New South Wales in December and his 29 dismissals were enough to top the Victorian wicket-tally for 2006-07.

He became only the fifth player in Sheffield Shield history to achieve the double of 750 runs and 25 wickets in a season, following in the footsteps of Tom Moody, Garry Sobers, Shaun Young and Norm O'Neill.

White, who guided Victoria to the limited-overs final, was destructive with the bat and was rewarded with a string of ODIs for Australia during the summer. He made 322 runs at 46 and claimed eight wickets at 37.12 in the Ford Ranger Cup.

White's most impressive effort was his 100-ball 126 against New South Wales at Canberra in December. The innings featured nine fours and five sixes as Victoria chased a mammoth 296 with eight wickets and 17 balls to spare.

St Kilda's Graeme Rummans won his second consecutive Jack Ryder Medal as the best player in Melbourne's club cricket. Rummans, who lost his Cricket Victoria contract during the winter, became the seventh man to score 1000 runs in a season. Cathryn Fitzpatrick, who has announced her retirement, was given the Sharon Tredrea Award for the second year running as the best player for the Victoria Spirit.
