Michael Roseberry announces his retirement

Michael Roseberry has announced his retirement from the first-class game.

The 34-year-old joined Middlesex in 1984 and later had four seasons with Durham. He played 236 first-class and 204 limited over games in his career.

As a right-handed opener, Roseberry formed an effective opening partnership with Desmond Haynes, helping Middlesex win the county championship in 1990 and 1993, as well as the Sunday League in 1992.

His best year came in 1992, when he made 2044 runs and won a place on the England 'A' tour that winter.

Sunderland-born Roseberry left Middlesex to join Durham as captain in 1995. He returned to Middlesex for 1999, having a benefit the following summer. Roseberry said: "I've had a great time in first-class cricket and enjoyed every moment. I'd like to thank both Durham, but particularly Middlesex, the players and the members for their support over the years and for the many happy memories I have."

Roseberry scored 11,950 first-class runs at 33.38, as well as 5759 at 30.31 in limited overs matches.
