†NEW ZEALAND v ENGLAND 1983-84

At Auckland, February 25

15-Apr-1985
At Auckland, February 25. New Zealand won by seven wickets. A well-controlled partnership of 160 in 32 overs between Howarth and Martin Crowe removed any New Zealand doubts that, on the low-bouncing pitch previously used for the third Test, a target of 210 might be beyond them. Marked in its early stages by inept running between wickets, which offered England a good run-out chance at 72 and two others not so easy, it developed into one of such confidence that by the 35th over the game was as good as won. Both batsmen drove and pulled powerfully, Crowe's 105 not out in 105 balls containing eleven 4s and one 6. Lamb had carried England's innings with authority and nimble skill, signing off with a huge straight 6 off Hadlee.
