New Zealand v Pakistan

15-Apr-2004

At Dambulla, May 11, 2003. New Zealand won by seven wickets. New Zealand 6 pts. Toss: New Zealand.
In conditions heavily favouring the side bowling first, New Zealand won the toss and went on to a resounding win. Tuffey removed Mohammad Hafeez in his first over, four of Pakistan's top six failed to score, and at 17 for five in the 12th over, they were in utter disarray. When he bowled Faisal Iqbal, Bond took his 50th one-day international wicket in his 27th game, making him the quickest New Zealander to the landmark. But he soon left the field with a back injury that would end his tour, and Rashid Latif and Shoaib Akhtar lifted the score past three figures. Even so, Pakistan were routed for their lowest total against New Zealand. Vincent, a late inclusion in the one-day squad, saw his side home in the face of a hostile examination by Shoaib Akhtar.
Man of the Match: D. R. Tuffey.
