At Westpac Stadium, Wellington, January 17, 2004 (day/night). New Zealand won by four runs.
Toss: New Zealand.
Though they lost the game, and the series 4-1, Pakistan were magnificent in a match that Abdul
Razzaq turned into a spectacular. In just 40 balls of wonderful hitting he changed the near impossible - 137 in 13 overs - into the very manageable - 14 from 11 balls. But after he holed
out to a relieved long-off, the tail fell five short. The pitch, by reputation slow and bowler-friendly,
was in fact splendid for strokeplay: Marshall and McMillan sent New Zealand racing past 200,
before a fiery 20-ball 36 by Cairns - plus some poor fielding - helped them to 307. At 73 for
four in reply, Pakistan looked lost. However, Inzamam-ul-Haq and Moin Khan carefully picked
up the pace, before Razzaq exploded. He hit five thunderous sixes and nine fours. After the match,
the umpires reported Shabbir Ahmed for a suspect bowling action.
Man of the Match: Abdul Razzaq.
