New Zealand v South Africa

At Hobart, January 15

15-Apr-2003
At Hobart, January 15. South Africa won by 26 runs. South Africa 4 pts. Toss: South Africa.
New Zealand briefly glimpsed another unexpected win when they needed 106 from 17 overs, with eight wickets left. But McMillan was expertly caught by Gibbs, and they plunged into a steep decline, losing seven for 50. The vital one was Fleming. After being forced into all sorts of contortions by rearing balls from Ntini, he was finally held at deep backward square for 85. Earlier, Kirsten square-cut and cover-drove his way to 97, only to run himself out. Boucher was lucky to escape when Cairns appeared to have him caught and bowled, but he smashed 22 off the next seven deliveries, and ended with a 19-ball 30. The victory was South Africa's tenth in their last ten completed one-day internationals against New Zealand.
Man of the Match: G. Kirsten.
