New Zealand v South Africa 1998-1999

At Auckland, February 20

15-Apr-2000
At Auckland, February 20. New Zealand won by seven wickets. Toss: New Zealand.
Falling back on the winning formula of using medium-slow bowlers on a lifeless pitch, New Zealand allowed Klusener to score his first hundred in one-day internationals, but still held South Africa to 212 for seven. Klusener's scoring was sedate by his own standards, and his 103 took 132 balls. Tight bowling was backed by brilliant catching, the best a staggering one-handed outfield take by Twose to remove Cronje. Once Astle got going - his first fifty came from 81 balls, his second from 45 - New Zealand cruised home with almost seven overs to spare.
Man of the Match: N. J. Astle.
