New Zealand v West Indies, 2005-06

Don Cameron
15-Apr-2007
At Auckland, March 4, 2006 (day/night). West Indies won by three wickets. Toss: New Zealand.
West Indies avoided a whitewash with a last-gasp victory under the Eden Park lights. New Zealand started badly, losing Vincent and Astle for single figures. While Styris made a face-saving 90, the bowlers kept nibbling away at the wickets column: Dwayne Smith gave the most accurate display the West Indians had managed throughout the series, and deserved his career-best five for 45. West Indies made a ponderous start to their reply and, though Bravo tried to hit the accelerator, wickets kept falling; when Chanderpaul departed after making his highest score of the tour, New Zealand moved in for the winning thrust. It never came. Hinds collected a brisk 40, and the diminutive Ramdin gave a masterly display until he was out just one run short of the victory his team craved so much.
Man of the Match: D. R. Smith. Attendance: 18,581.
