The 11th over of New South Wales' innings was taken for 17. Phillip Hughes and Moises Henriques smashed a six each off Piyush Chawla and Henriques was also dropped at short extra cover. He was batting on 8 and went onto score an unbeaten 51.
Sussex lost the crucial wicket of their captain Ed Joyce in the first over for a golden duck. Brett Lee removed his off stump and Sussex failed to get off to a good start.
After a shaky start, Sussex depended on Dwayne Smith to give the innings a push. However, he fell for 13, losing his off stump to Doug Bollinger in the tenth over
