Pakistan in New Zealand, 2010-11

Pakistan completed their first one-day series win since November 2008 - and first in New Zealand since 1993-94 - courtesy of a faultless 115 in 109 balls from 19-year-old Ahmed Shehzad and an energetic performance in the field. New Zealand made three changes, recalling the fit-again Ryder, Mills and Oram in place of Vettori, who had a hamstring injury, Southee and Williamson. Stand-in captain Taylor's decision to bowl first at a ground that had often favoured the chasing team initially looked sensible, as Mills's first four overs cost two runs and brought the wicket of Mohammad Hafeez. But Bennett proved costly at the other end, and Pakistan's middle order all made handy contributions as Shehzad, having failed to pass 43 in his seven previous one-day internationals, eased towards three figures. If Pakistan rued their failure to push on towards 300, they were immediately boosted by the first-ball run-out of Ryder, who backed up too far after Guptill's push to mid-on and was comfortably beaten by Misbah-ul-Haq, running round from midwicket. Guptill and Taylor both failed to build on good starts, and there was little other support as Pakistan's bowlers, led by Umar Gul, wrung the life out of the New Zealand innings.
