At Bulawayo (Queens), September 8, 2011. First one-day international: Pakistan won by five runs. Pakistan 247-7 (50 overs) (Younis Khan 78, Misbah-ul-Haq 54, Umar Akmal 36); Zimbabwe 242-7 (50 overs) (V. Sibanda 73, B. R. M. Taylor 84; Aizaz Cheema 3-36).
Younis Khan raced to 50 from only 38 balls and, with captain Misbah-ul-Haq doing his best to keep up, a total of 300 seemed likely on a faultless batting surface. But it was a bad day for the Akmal brothers: Umar delivered a curiously pedestrian 36 from 59 deliveries, and Adnan, on his one-day debut, swung mightily while timing nothing. Left-arm spinner Price was outstanding in the batting powerplay at the death, and the final total was 20 to 30 below par. Sibanda gave Zimbabwe's reply early impetus, and Taylor played a measured innings, only to stumble within 15 runs of the target, leaving the new batsmen with too much to do. Debutant seamer Aizaz Cheema showed fine control in the middle overs, and left-armer Sohail Tanvir hit the blockhole at will towards the end.
MoM: Younis Khan. One-day international debuts: Adnan Akmal, Aizaz Cheema.
