Pakistan penalised for slow over-rate

Pakistan have been fined for a slow over-rate during their 25-run victory in the second one-day international against South Africa in Lahore. Pakistan bowled out the opposition for 240 in 49.3 overs but were found to be three overs short of the allotted time, after taking the allowances into consideration.

Though captain Shoaib Malik was off the field for most of South Africa's chase due to cramps, he was still docked 50% of his match fee. Younis Khan led the side in Malik's absence. Match referee Alan Hurst said that Malik was found guilty of breaching clause 2.11 of the Code of Conduct, a Level two offence which comes into force when a team is found to be more than two overs short.

"The Pakistan team finished three overs short of the required number of overs, although they were fully updated throughout the innings of their progress by the umpires," Hurst said. "And although captain Shoaib Malik was not on the field for much of the innings because of injury, he is still accountable in these circumstances."

The other players were fined 5% of their individual match fee for every over Pakistan failed to bowl in the alloted time, and as a result, were docked 15% each.
