PAKISTAN v ENGLAND 1977-78

At Sahiwal, December 23

15-Apr-1979
At Sahiwal, December 23. England won by three wickets. A capacity crowd of 15,000 - thousands had to be turned away - were enthralled by a thrilling finish which ended with England winning off the last ball. The last over began with ten needed from eight balls. When Edmonds was run out, four were wanted from four. Botham, forced to play one defensively, struck a two to level the scores with one to go and then hit the last delivery through the cordon of fielders to the cover boundary with a magnificent shot. Had the totals remained level, Pakistan would have won as they had lost one wicket fewer. Victory was set up by Roope and Randall, who each hit two big 6s. Javed Miandad, however, hit three 6s and was made Man of the Match.
Pakistan 208 for six (35 overs) (Javed Miandad 77, Wasim Raja 36, I. T. Botham three for 39); England 212 for seven (35 overs) (B. C. Rose 54, D. W. Randall 35, J. M. Brearley 30).
