15-Apr-2003
At Sharjah, April 8 (day/night). Sri Lanka won by 41 runs. Sri Lanka 4 pts. Toss: Sri Lanka.
Pakistan's chase never got close. Earlier, their bowlers had scrapped their way back into the
game, after Jayasuriya blasted 87 from 78 balls. When he nicked an out-swinger from Abdul
Razzaq, Sri Lanka were 128 for four at the halfway point, and the match was beautifully poised.
Arnold and Chandana tipped it Sri Lanka's way, adding 52 in 48 balls. Pakistan were fined one
over for a slow over-rate, but were routed in 46. While Jayasuriya chopped and changed his
bowlers, they limped to 73 for four in 21 overs - and that was before Muralitharan came on.
When he did, Inzamam-ul-Haq overbalanced by a fraction and was smartly stumped. Razzaq fought
hard, but had too much to do.
Man of the Match: S. T. Jayasuriya.
