†PAKISTAN v SRI LANKA 1989-90

At Lucknow, October 27

15-Apr-1991
At Lucknow, October 27. Pakistan won by 6 runs. Toss: Pakistan. Yet again the Sri Lankans came so close to causing an upset; yet again they fell at the last. But while Tillekeratne (one six, one four) and Aravinda de Silva (two sixes, three fours) were adding 150 for the third wicket, Pakistan's prospects of a semi-final place looked to be slipping away. Once this pair were separated, though, inexperience told. Needing 8 runs off the last two overs, Sri Lanka lost Ratnayeke and Labrooy to successive balls from Wasim Akram, Asoka de Silva was run out, and Mahanama was bowled by Qadir with four balls remaining. Pakistan's recovery from 70 for four at the halfway stage was due to Imran's unbeaten 84 off 110 balls which contained just three boundaries.
Man of the Match: Imran Khan.
