Pakistan v Sri Lanka 1997-1998

At Kimberley, April 7

15-Apr-1999
At Kimberley, April 7. Pakistan won by four wickets. Toss: Sri Lanka.
Pakistan batted gloriously in perfect conditions to score more than a run a ball. They had one over docked, because of their slow over-rate, but scored to 300 with six balls to spare. Inzamam-ul-Haq, who arrived after both openers fell cheaply, hit a hurricane 116 from 110 balls. His fifth century at this level included four sixes and four fours, and he was backed up by Ijaz Ahmed, who also hit four sixes, and Moin Khan. Earlier, Sri Lanka's openers punished ragged fielding and bowling in a stand of 107. Kaluwitharana scored 54 off 52 balls; oddly, he hit no boundaries, while Jayasuriya's slower 57, taking 71 balls, including seven fours and a six. De Silva and Ranatunga put on 142 to set up a total of 295, which they must have thought quite enough.
Man of the Match: Inzamam-ul-Haq. Attendance: 7,156.
