†PAKISTAN v WEST INDIES

At Karachi, October 30

15-Apr-1988
At Karachi, October 30. West Indies won by 28 runs. Toss: West Indies. This was like old times: aggravating students, running battles with the police, teargas drifting across the enclosures and West Indies rolling over the opposition. True, Pakistan's performance was decidedly off song, especially in the field where catches were put down and they needed a hurry-up from Imran to avoid the imposition of fines for a slow over-rate. Richards was a convincing presence throughout, initially with the bat and then marshalling his resources in the field. Taking 74 balls for his 67, he added 137 in 23 overs with Richardson, whose highest one-day score for West Indies, from 136 balls, included a straight-driven six off Imran and another 38 in boundaries. Pakistan began tardily, only 26 coming from the first ten overs. The rate had improved to 4 an over by the time Mudassar was bowled, but when the innings required a quicker tempo, Richards and his bowlers dictated the beat. Imran had good reason for expressing his dissatisfaction after the match.
Man of the Match: R. B. Richardson.
