Pakistan v West Indies

At Sharjah, February 15 (day/night)

15-Apr-2003
At Sharjah, February 15 (day/night). Pakistan won by 51 runs. Toss: Pakistan. International debut: R. S. Morton.
Two 20-year-olds, Shoaib Malik and Mohammad Sami, shaped a series-clinching win with a century and a hat-trick. Victory looked unlikely when Pakistan were 51 for four, and again when West Indies reached 100 in 14 overs with only one wicket down. But Malik, newly promoted to No. 4, batted with great maturity to resuscitate Pakistan: he took 89 balls to reach 50, and just 41 for his next 61. Ganga fell to the first ball of the innings, only for Gayle to ensure another flying start by smashing 62 off 46 deliveries, with eight fours and three sixes. But his tame shot in the first over of Shoaib Akhtar's second spell triggered a collapse of nine for 80 in 21 overs. Sami completed the win by trapping Jacobs with a questionable leg-before, then clean-bowling Collymore and Cuffy. It was Sharjah's fourth hat-trick, and all had been taken by Pakistanis.
Man of the Match: Shoaib Malik.
