PAKISTAN v WEST INDIES 1980-81

At Karachi, December 22, 23, 24, 26, 27

15-Apr-1982
At Karachi, December 22, 23, 24, 26, 27. Drawn. Rain delayed the start until after lunch on the second day, when Pakistan elected to bat on the drying wicket. Their decision seemed ill advised as they lost two wickets for no score, struggled to 14 for four, and had reached only 68 for six overnight, with Zaheer Abbas also back in the pavilion after being struck on the forehead by a short ball from Croft. But recovery came through a fine captain's innings from Javed Miandad with help from Wasim Bari, who reclaimed his place in the Test side after a two-year absence. Six of Pakistan's batsmen failed to score - a new Test record. West Indies, stunned by a combination of speed and spin, were reeling at 44 for five, with Richards, Kallicharran and Lloyd going in quick succession. That they achieved a first innings lead of 41 owed much to Gomes and Murray who added 99 for the sixth wicket. From 70 for one at the close on the fourth day, Pakistan slipped to 85 for five, but Man of the Match Wasim Raja batted calmly and, with stubborn tail-end resistance, Pakistan were able to bat out time, thus keeping the series alive.
