†PAKISTAN v WEST INDIES 1981-82

At Melbourne, November 21

15-Apr-1983
At Melbourne, November 21. West Indies won by 18 runs. After their heavy defeat in the first Test against Australia, Pakistan did well to come within measurable distance of beating West Indies. When West Indies were put in to bat, it looked as if openers Greenidge and Haynes would run away with the match as they put on 182 for the first wicket in 39 overs. However, Haynes's dismissal precipitated a collapse. For Pakistan, Rizwan and Mudassar had fifty on the board from fifteen overs, and the hundred came in a slightly faster time than West Indies'; but then Richards bowled ten overs of off-breaks with surprising economy and Pakistan were never quite up with the clock.
Man of the Match: C. G. Greenidge. Attendance: 6,415.
