Pakistan coasted to victory in pursuit of a revised target. A patchy West Indian innings was halted at 207 by a combination of fading natural light and malfunctioning artificial ones. Lara had fallen first ball, but Gayle lit up a gloomy day with an explosive assault, which included three fours in one Umar Gul over, and 21 off Naved-ul-Hasan's next. But Naved responded well, trapping Gayle in front, and later bowling Simmons, who anchored the innings with 70 from 130 balls. Pakistan's target, once the electrical problems had been sorted out after a two-hour delay, was a challenging 191 from 35 overs. However, West Indies' bowlers rarely hit the right spots on another lively pitch, and the fielding was shoddy. A fluffed run-out let Imran Farhat off second ball: he survived to make a rather erratic 58. Oddly, Lara waited until the 18th over to introduce his best bowler, Collymore, by which time it was 93 for one. He soon removed Farhat, but there was no way back, as Mohammad Yousuf, available again, asserted himself as fluently as ever.
