Rain ensures tame draw at Bath

Yorkshire's Darren Lehmann helped himself to 187 not out as the rain-affected game with Somerset at Bath fizzled out into the tamest of draws.

A draw had looked likely even before 49 overs were lost on the final day because of rain to make it a cast-iron certainty.

In the play possible, Yorkshire advanced from 425-4 to 589-5 in reply to Somerset's 553-5 declared with Lehmann, 105 not out overnight, finishing with 24 fours and a six in his 276-ball innings.

Somerset secured ten points from the match, while Yorkshire also gained ten to ensure they stay comfortably at the top of the table.

Heavy rain before the scheduled 11am start prevented any action until 2.15pm and showers caused two more disruptions.

The only wicket to fall came from the fourth ball of the day's second over, when Gary Fellows pulled a Richard Johnson delivery to Ian Blackwell, a substitute fielder for injured Somerset captain Jamie Cox, at mid-wicket. Fellows' 63 came from 112 balls, contained seven fours and was part of a fifth-wicket stand of 149 with Darren Lehmann.

Richard Blakey (78 not out) helped Lehmann add an unbroken 159 for the sixth wicket to deny Somerset a further bowling bonus point.

Once that possiblility had passed within the first 130 overs, acting Somerset captain Mike Burns introduced the very occasional bowling of Piran Holloway, Mark Lathwell and even wicketk-eeper Rob Turner.

The sides meet again in a Norwich Union League match at Bath tomorrow with Somerset seeking revenge for a defeat at Headingley last month.

The home side will have experienced batsman Peter Bowler back after he sat law exams in Nottingham last week, but will be without captain Jamie Cox because of a fractured thumb on his left hand.
