Grundy, Dibble called into England squad

England have included two uncapped spinners, Rebecca Grundy and Jodie Dibble, in their squad for the World Twenty20. There were also recalls for Tammy Beaumont and Fran Wilson, with England missing the experienced duo of Arran Brindle - who announced her retirement on Monday - and the injured Katherine Brunt.

Tash Farrant is also unavailable due to injury, while Danielle Wyatt and Lauren Winfield were dropped from the squad who retained the Ashes in Australia. Grundy, who succeeded fellow left-arm spinner Holly Colvin in the performance squad when the latter took a break from cricket, and Dibble, previously a left-arm seamer, will form back-up for offspinner Danielle Hazell on the slow pitches in Bangladesh.

"Both Jodie and Rebecca have developed enormously over the last couple of years and they thoroughly deserve this opportunity," the ECB head of England women's cricket, Clare Connor, said. "As young spinners, there is no better place in the world to ply your trade than the subcontinent and I hope that they enjoy and learn from the experience.

"We are also delighted to see Tammy Beaumont and Fran Wilson back in the squad. Their performances during the recent England women's academy tour to Sri Lanka were an important part of the team's success out there, and I'm sure that they will be aiming to carry this form forward to Bangladesh."

Although England have named 15 players, according to the ICC they will only be allowed to register 14 for the tournament, as per the rules for the women's World Twenty20. The competition begins on March 23 in Sylhet, with the semi-finals and final preceding the men's equivalents in Dhaka.

England, who won the first women's World Twenty20 in 2009, lost in the final of the previous tournament two years ago in Sri Lanka, as Australia retained their title from 2010.

"It is a very exciting time for the England women's cricket team," Connor said. "The back-to-back Ashes triumphs, in addition to the news last week about the pay increases for the players, put us in a healthy position. I look forward to seeing what this group of players can achieve on the field in Bangladesh."
