Virender Sehwag, the Indian opener, was summoned for a disciplinary hearing by Ranjan Madugalle, the match referee, after disputing the decision that led to his dismissal in today's play in the first Test at Bangalore.
Sehwag exchanged words with Billy Bowden, the umpire, and some of the Australian players after being adjudged lbw to Glenn McGrath shortly after the Indian second innings began. They needed 457 to win, but this left them struggling at 1 for 1. Replays showed that Sehwag, 25, was unlucky to have been given out, as the ball took a big inside edge off the bat before hitting the pad.
Madugalle said that Sehwag had apologised during the after-play hearing, which was also attended by the umpires - Bowden and Steve Bucknor - and India's coach John Wright. Under the ICC Code of Conduct Sehwag could be fined a proportion of his match fee, or possibly even banned for one match. Madugalle said that he would announce his decision tomorrow.
