Somerset turn to Myburgh

Somerset have bolstered their squad with the signing of the experienced South African Johann Myburgh.

Myburgh, 33, is a top order right hand batsman who also bowls off breaks. He currently lives with his wife in Twickenham, on the outskirts of London, and has been living in the UK for a number of seasons playing for Sutton CC in the Surrey Championship.

The well-travelled Myburgh has played domestic first class cricket in South Africa for the Titans, and has also spent time playing in New Zealand playing for Canterbury, before appearing for Hampshire in 2011 and Durham in 2012. During his career, he has occasionally been on the fringe of various South African and New Zealand national squads without ever quite making his international debut.

Somerset's director of cricket Dave Nosworthy, also South African, said: "Mybs is a quality person and a quality professional cricketer. His track record speaks for itself and I have no doubt that his experience and expertise will add massive value and depth to the team.

"He is coming to the club with no guarantees or any expectations, so I look forward to him fighting his way into contention. I have worked with Mybs before and know what he has to offer, so look forward to him performing and also to everyone making him feel as welcome as possible."
