South Africa v Australia

At Durban, April 3 (day/night)

15-Apr-2003
At Durban, April 3 (day/night). Australia won by eight wickets. Toss: Australia. International debut: J. C. Kent.
Australia clinched the series at a canter, with Gilchrist's flurried century leading the way. Asked to bat on what turned out to be a sound surface, South Africa built their total steadily. Rhodes played a hallmark, guts-driven innings, and found a like-minded partner in Boucher, who helped him add 97 in 13 overs. But it all came to nothing as the Australian juggernaut swung into action. Gilchrist should have been caught on 11 - Kallis dropped an edge off Pollock - and took full advantage of his let-off with 105 in 104 deliveries, dominating an opening partnership of 170 with Hayden. They fell within three overs of each other, but there was no further drama as Ponting and Martyn completed the job with a minimum of fuss.
Man of the Match: A. C. Gilchrist.
