At Cape Town, April 9 (day/night). South Africa won by 65 runs (D/L method). Toss: Australia.
South Africa finally notched up a win, but it did little to salve the wounds inflicted by Australia
over the last few months. In a rain-affected match, they dismissed the tourists for 185 chasing a
revised target of 251 in 39 overs. Pollock bowled a superb new-ball spell to remove Australia's
top three, and only Bevan managed prolonged resistance until Boje's left-arm spin mopped up the
last five wickets. After rain delayed the start and then forced the players from the field again when
South Africa were 24 without loss in the fifth over, the match shrank from 43 to 39 overs a side.
Smith delighted his home crowd with another half-century, and Boje scored a rapid 49, but it was
Rhodes who led the final sprint, smashing two sixes to finish unbeaten on 39 from 24 balls.
Man of the Match: N. Boje.
Man of the Series: R. T. Ponting
