South Africa v New Zealand, 2000-01

At Kimberley, October 28

15-Apr-2002
At Kimberley, October 28. South Africa won by five wickets. Toss: South Africa.
Cairns, big-hitting hero of New Zealand's ICC Knockout success, was on the receiving end of a breathtaking finish that gave South Africa the series with two to play. They needed 16 off the last two overs: in just five balls, Boucher hit Cairns over long-on for six and Boje struck a straight six and four off him. Brisk batting by Nevin and Twose in support of Fleming had produced New Zealand's best total of the series, though Twose might have gone for nought had a power failure in an outside broadcast unit not prevented the third umpire from ruling on a close run-out call. Kirsten, hitting his tenth one-day international hundred, and Kallis kept South Africa in contention by adding 172 in just under 33 overs. It was the second time in four days that Kirsten had broken his country's second-wicket record.
Man of the Match: G. Kirsten.
