South Africa v Sri Lanka

At Lahore, November 8 (day/night)

15-Apr-1999
At Lahore, November 8 (day/night). South Africa won by four wickets. Toss: South Africa.
The platform for South Africa's dominance was laid in a superb fielding and bowling display. A brilliant running catch from mid-on by Symcox to dismiss the dangerous Jayasuriya set the pattern. Klusener was equally spectacular, clutching both Aravinda de Silva, who had become the fourth batsman to score 7,000 runs in one-day internationals, at fine leg and Ranatunga at third man. The Sri Lankans were restricted to 209, the lowest total of the tournament. Klusener then followed up his catches with 99 off 96 balls, hitting 11 fours and two sixes. He added 79 with captain Cronje to pull his team from the uncertainty of 109 for four and chart a course for victory, which they achieved with more than nine overs in hand.
Man of the Match: L. Klusener. Man of the Tournament: L. Klusener.
