At Johannesburg, January 18, 2008 (floodlit). South Africa won by four wickets. Toss: South Africa. Twenty20 international debuts: J. L. Ontong; R. N. Lewis.
On a green pitch which had been under cover for three days - and was only unwrapped when the rain stopped an hour before the start - the West Indian batsmen predictably struggled. Bravo hit part-time spinner Ontong for a brace of sixes to instigate a recovery from 58 for four, but the innings was most notable for the cheeky running of byes in the last few overs when the ball went through to the wicketkeeper, which infuriated Boucher and ensured a competitive total. South Africa also had trouble with the prodigious seam movement, and were distinctly in second place at 77 for six. But then Albie Morkel joined forces in a decisive stand of 57 off 33 balls, which helped earn Pollock the match award in his first game since announcing his imminent retirement.
Man of the Match: S. M. Pollock.
