Sri Lanka A wrapped up the third consecutive victory of their tour of England, as Durham were sent packing in a rain-affected affair at Chester-le-Street. Set a revised total of 237 to win, Durham slumped to 199 all out, despite a blistering 89 from Gary Pratt.
After being asked to bat first, Sri Lanka were given another fine start by their Test opener, Avishka Gunawardene, who rattled along to 59 from 58 balls, with six fours and two sixes. He and Saman Jayantha added 54 for the first wicket, and after a composed 42 from Ian Daniel, Thilina Kandamby applied the gloss finish with 40 from 22 balls, before being run out in the 32nd and final over of the innings.
Under the Duckworth/Lewis regulations, Durham had an extra 27 runs added to their target, but it all looked pretty distant when three wickets fell with the score on 71. Jonathan Lewis had earlier fallen to Ranga Dias for 6, but Pratt picked up the pieces and set about restoring Durham's fortunes.
Unfortunately from Pratt and Durham, the tail were unable to stay with him. Kyle Coetzer hung around as best he could, but none of the others could reach double figures as Bathiya Perera and Nuwan Kulasekera completed the victory. Pratt was the last man out, caught by Kulasekera off Perera for 89 off 67 balls.
