Sri Lanka v Holland

At R

15-Apr-2003
At R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo, September 16 (day/night). Sri Lanka won by 206 runs. Toss: Sri Lanka. International debuts: Adeel Raja, J-J. Esmeijer, V. D. Grandia, E. Schiferli, R. H. Scholte, D. L. S. van Bunge, L. P. van Troost.
It had been six years since Holland's last outing at this level, and the rust showed in this 206- run rout. For the few spectators who bothered to turn up, the only entertainment was Tim de Leede's fabulous jump-and-grab to dismiss de Silva on the mid-wicket boundary. Holland were never going to overhaul 292, definitely not after three wickets went down in the first four overs, and de Leede provided the sole note of defiance with 31. Even Sri Lanka got little out of the match except Atapattu's sixth one-day hundred. What the Dutch bowlers lacked by way of skill, they made up for in discipline and commitment as the Sri Lankan innings progressed in fits and starts, with Sangakkara horribly out of touch. Once Atapattu had sauntered to three figures and departed, it was left to Arnold and Vaas to provide the swipes and heaves the crowd craved. Not that it mattered. The have-nots were so clueless against Murali that even 200 would have been well beyond them.
Man of the Match: M. S. Atapattu.
