Scott Newman and Jon Batty's hundred partnership took Surrey to what could prove a vital victory in their bid to stave off relegation in their first season since coming back into the top division.
The pair each made fifties to help ease Surrey to their target of 177 against fellow strugglers Warwickshire at Edgbaston. They reached their hundred partnership in the first session, before Newman eventually fell on 87, caught by Tim Ambrose off Chris Woakes.
Batty (68*) and Mark Ramprakash, who made 15 not out, sealed the win.
Warwickshire, however, were cast further into peril. They are nine points ahead of Kent who are second from bottom but have a game in hand.
Warwickshire next play Lancashire, while Kent will close out with Hampshire and Durham. Surrey's final match is against Lancashire.
