India's master batsman Sachin Tendulkar has been named Ansett Player of the Series, while Australia's premier fast bowler Glenn McGrath earned the Ansett Player of the Match honours following the SCG Test.
Australia followed up their 3-0 Ansett Australia Test Series win over Pakistan late last year with an identical clean-sweep in the three matches against India, culminating with an innings and 141-run victory at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
Tendulkar, who scored a magnificent 116 in Melbourne along with two half-centuries in the three-Test series, won a trip to the value of $10,000 flying to Osaka or Hong Kong on Ansett Australia's new 747-400 Series, which in 1999 was voted Best Business Class in the World. Tendulkar was the stand-out performer in his beaten team, and withstood strong challenges from McGrath and Australian team-mates Ricky Ponting, Adam Gilchrist and Steve Waugh for the top award.
McGrath, who snared his second career 10-wicket haul in front of his home crowd at the SCG, won $3000 and the Ansett trophy. McGrath, who finished leading wicket-taker in the series with 18, beat double centurion Justin Langer, and centurions Ricky Ponting and VVS Laxman for the honour.
