Time shouldn't be a factor in getting things right

New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming is in agreement with trials to be done at the ICC Champions Trophy in Sri Lanka which could determine the future influence of technology in umpiring decisions.

The move was announced this week by the ICC, after strong lobbying by New Zealand which has been pushing the case in recent years.

However, Fleming was concerned that the trial might be hamstrung before it starts.

"It has to be tried but there has to be a limit.

"The ICC has put a time limit on and the number of replays that can be seen.

"If we are moving to get a judgment right, surely putting a time frame on it may decrease that accuracy.

"There are a couple of issues that need to be looked at. It is a trial and we will know more from that tournament.

"We all want correct decisions, we want them as much as possible.

"The only question mark on it is how much time it is going to take during a game.

"There are some cases where, even in the last game, there were some very good decisions, there were some tough decisions to be made.

"But that often is part of the game and can go your way, it can go against you. I guess you are after the accurate decisions, how long they take, that is the question that is going to be asked, that has to be asked," he said.
