Allrounder Javed Ahmadi will lead Afghanistan at the Under-19 World Cup in Australia in August. Batsman Shabir Noori, who scored two fifties in the recently-concluded Under-19 Asia Cup, will be the vice-captain.
Afghanistan had impressed in the Asia Cup in June, making it to the semi-finals alongside India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, by comfortably beating Bangladesh. The selectors have made three changes to the squad that played that tournament, leaving out Sharafudin, Zia-ul-Haq and Fitratullah Khawari. In their place, two batsmen, Younas Ahmadzai and Abdur Mangal, and left-arm spinner Abdul Naseri come in.
For the World Cup, Afghanistan have been placed in group B, with Pakistan, New Zealand and Scotland. They will play Pakistan on August 11, the opening day of the tournament, in Buderim.
