Warriors 253 for 6 (Kreusch 112, Makalima 59, Dawson 3-30, Hantam 3-53) beat Western Province Boland 205 (Prince 57, Hayward 3-46) by 48 runs
Scorecard
After Warriors had lost the wicket of Mark Bruyns in the first over, Dumisa Makalima and Justin Kreusch added 170 in 201 balls to lay the foundations for an impressive 253 for 6 in their allocated 45 overs. Makalima's fifty was the second of his career while Kreusch registered his second hundred and a career high of 112. With the long handle being employed towards the end of the innings, Alan Dawson and William Hantam benefited with three wickets each.
An explosive response was required by Western Province Boland, and Henry Davids did not disappoint, scoring 18 off 16 balls before being caught in the fourth over. Andrew Puttick and Gerhard Strydom took the score to 82 in 14 overs when Strydom departed for 27.
Puttick was next to go for 40, a dismissal that sparked a collapse which left Western Province Boland floundering at 140 for 6. Ashwell Prince scored 57 to keep his team in the game but with the run-rate soaring and wickets continuing to fall, all that was remained was to secure the bonus point. In the end they just made it, as they were bowled out for 205.
Lions 218 for 7 (Bacher 72, van Jaarsveld 68, Mbhalati 3-37) beat Titans 140 (Nkwe 4-11) by 80 runs
Scorecard
Adam Bacher (72) and Vaughn van Jaarsveld (68) saved the Lions from disaster against Titans, after some slow and poor batting resulted in a run-rate that stayed under four runs per over until late in the innings. Both Bacher and van Jaarsveld timed their innings well, accelerating at the right moment to post a competitive total of 218, which at one stage had seemed to be a long way away.
Bacher was eventually undone by the extra bounce generated by Ethy Mbhalati, who picked up three wickets, while Andre Nel had van Jaarsveld caught at cover. The send-off van Jaarsveld received from Nel was totally unnecessary and might well land the bowler in hot water.
The hard-hitting top-six batsmen of the Titans failed dismally against the pace attack of David Terbrugge, Charl Langeveldt and Garnett Kruger, all of whom made early inroads to reduce them to 93 for 4. With Enoch Nkwe joining the party in taking 4 for 11 in seven overs of excellent seam bowling, the Titans folded to 138 all out.
