Scorecard
Chanaka Welegedara and Tharanga Paranavitana were the stars on a day that completely belonged to Sri Lanka Cricket Invitation XI. Welegedara grabbed a five-for as Tamil Nadu were shot out for 74 before Paranavitana hit an unbeaten 103 to charge the hosts to a 128-run lead, with eight wickets still standing, at the end of the opening day in Colombo.
Tamil Nadu never got going after being put into bat. Murali Vijay, who averages 52.33 in his short first-class career, fell early, edging behind. Welegedara took care of the top order before Dammika Prasad tore into the lower-middle order to leave Tamil Nadu tottering at 31 for 7. That only three players touched double figures says a lot about the host's domination.
Michael Vandort and Tharanga Paranavitana stitched together a 70-run partnership before R Ashwin, Tamil Nadu's captain, broke the stand. Paranavitana carried on, hitting 12 fours and a six, in his 143-ball knock.
